are invited to the 2014 "8th Fire Gathering" in the Northeast. Bring your passion, vision, skills, knowledge, and expertise to help create a positive future. We will continue to build on the work of past gatherings: healing our relationship to each other and the Earth and using the collective energy to weave a path of light towards a "new people". This will be a cross-cultural gathering where we will spend four days in dialogue, ceremony and celebration with the intention of making a "good way" ahead for Earth, Her children, and All Life. We will honor the wisdom and practices of Indigenous Peoples who have lived on Turtle Island successfully for thousands of years. Hear the voices of the grandmothers and grandfathers as they share the truths of their cultures.

To The Ends Of The Earth - Secrets Of The Incas: The War Against Time

William (Bill) Sullivan - "Secrets of the Incas"

Why did the Inca sacrifice their own children? And why was the Inca Empire created in the first place? In the second and final part, Bill Sullivan discovers the Inca etched huge effigies, some of the biggest on the planet, into the landscape conforming to constellations in the sky - revered creatures of the Inca mythologies - and hidden from the Spanish and even the local modern Incas. Bill's conclusion is that the Inca mythologies are so similar to other cultures half way across the globe, that they must have a common origin. Aired on Channel Four in 2000 and produced by BOA Picture Company.

Bill is a friend of mine and my husband - Ben. Bill was a student of JG Bennett at the school International Academy for Continuous Education, in the Cotswold in England in the '70's.

About Bill;
William Sullivan is a native New Englander. Educated at Harvard College, he was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Rajasthan India, and later studied the History of Religion under J.G Bennett at Sherborne House in Gloucestershire, England. In 1988, after several years of fieldwork in Peru and Bolivia, he received a doctorate in American Indian Studies from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. He lives in central Massachusetts with his wife Penelope. There are bears in the backyard.

Beef with Broccoli

I'll serve with Brown Rice ...

                        

Ingredients

• 1 tablespoon peanut oil
• 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
• 1 tablespoon Sichuan peppercorns
• 1 pound beef sirloin, sliced to 1/2-inch-thick strips
• 4 ounce tender baby broccoli florets, blanched (about 1 1/2 cups)
• 1 tablespoon Shaohsing rice wine or dry sherry

• 1 to 2 teaspoons honey
• 1 to 2 tablespoons light soy
• 1 teaspoon dark soy
• 1/4 cup hot vegetable stock
• 1 heaping tablespoon cornstarch, blended with 2 tablespoons cold water

Directions

Heat a wok over high heat and add the oil. When the oil begins to smoke, add the garlic and Sichuan peppercorns and stir-fry quickly for a few seconds.

Add the beef and let it settle for a moment. As it starts to turn brown, after a minute or so, add the broccoli florets and the rice wine. Stir-fry for a few seconds.

Season the beef and broccoli with the honey, light soy and dark soy.

Add in the vegetable stock and bring the mixture to a boil. Stir in the cornstarch and water mixture and cook to thicken, about 1 minute. Serve immediately

The sculpture of an animal at Gobekli Tepe, close to Sanliurfa. The photo was taken during a visit to Gobekli Tepe in 2008. Cropped the image a bit to focus on the interesting pillar. To the best of my knowledge it was one of the recent finds from Prof. Schmidt's group, when the photo was taken. Decided to put it online after it appeared also in a BBC documentary. Orthodox Churches Will Hold First Ecumenical Council In 1,200 Years In Istanbul

Patriarchs of the world's 250 million Orthodox Christians ended a rare summit in Istanbul, Turkey, on Sunday calling for a peaceful end to the crisis in Ukraine and denouncing violence driving Christians out of the Middle East. Twelve heads of autonomous Orthodox Churches, the second-largest family of Christian Churches after the 1.2-billion-member Catholic Church, also agreed to hold the "sacred and great" pan-Orthodox Synod, a summit of bishops, or ecumenical council, in 2016, which will be the first in over 1,200 years. 

A Preparatory Commission consisting of a bishop from each Church has been set up to prepare the introductory documents. The Istanbul talks were called to decide on the council, which the Orthodox have been preparing on and off since the 1960s, but the Ukraine crisis overshadowed their talks at the office of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, regarded as the spiritual leader of worldwide Orthodox Christians. Orthodox Christianity links 14 independent churches, based in Eastern Europe, Russia and the Middle East. The Damascus-based church of Antioch and the Czech and Slovak Church did not attend the Istanbul meeting because of disputes with other churches.

                                                                                                              

The Orthodox recognize seven Ecumenical Councils, beginning with the Council of Nicaea in 325, which refuted Arianism, and ending with the Second Council of Nicaea in 787, which restored the veneration of icons and is the last Council to be accepted by both the Eastern and Western Churches. Some Orthodox Christians also include two other meetings of Eastern bishops as Councils, but most consider them local synods. The Western Church recognizes 21 Councils, the most recent being the Second Vatican Council in 1962.

The 2016 council will be held in Hagia Irene, a Byzantine church building in the outer courtyard of the Ottoman sultans' Topkapi Palace. Now a museum, it has not been used as a church since the Muslim conquest of Constantinople in 1453.
